Connect – Yarn Evenings
December 12 @ 6:30 pm
Yarn Evenings are a monthly social get together, which began in October and is where stories are shared, voices are heard and plans are made. These evenings will facilitate an opportunity to bring communities together in the sharing of knowledge and stories.
The evenings will be led by Zara Starr, actor and theatre maker with The Unlimited Dream Machine Theatre Company (The UDM). Zara will engage in a six month Participatory Art residency from October 2018 – March 2019, seeking out potential collaborators and planning artistic responses to the West Clare environment through workshops, research and meetings with the community, history and architecture of this region.
Focusing on communities of place and interest, this residency will facilitate a period of connection, participation, development and reflection within the region.
Through collaborative engagement with local artists and community members Zara plans to focus on what communities wish to express.
Yarn Evenings are just one element of the residencies which will also feature a meet-up /mentoring strand for local artists that aims to create potential opportunities in devising and skill sharing for all artists involved as well as creating new and lasting connections between artists.
Zara will also facilitate a series of workshops on drama, devising theatre, movement and Shakespeare to encourage participation between community members and theatre. There will also be an ongoing examination of local stories to inspire potential future projects.
